In Vienna, it's very common to see sausages discarded on the street, like so much common trash. This not only upset Dan but rattled him deeply to the core. Upon encountering the wayward weiner he said "What kind of world....What kind of world, Quinn? Sweet mother of mercy....what...kind..of.......of....world...." Posted by Hello

And make a sculpture out of it in the snow...the inscription read: "RIP - Music Kills" - That's pretty much the long and short of how to put a guitar to rest. Posted by Hello

And smash it while it was on fire... Posted by Hello

I thought it'd be fitting to burn it.... Posted by Hello

Wow, I just saw a guy get thrown out of the internet cafe. He got tossed out in the snow after a heated argument with the cafe attendant in German/Hindi and English.

This place rules.

Advice to Jason: Make this face as often as possible and start speaking with a fake French accent. "Allo, Allo....mah naym eeez Jayzun, right? How are all ohf eew laydeez doang zeez eveneeng? Enchante! Okay, okay...cheesebarger, cocacola, rockandroll...yes? Eew understand?"

So I went to Europe and a vacation broke out..

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast night/I heard/the Strokes about 5 times/Dan and I were hanging out at the Chelsea/it's an indie bar....

So, what do two dudes from Chicago do with their Saturday night in a foreign city? We experience the European version of the Hideout dance party. It was a cool club too...the hot local beer is called "Wieselburger" -so- Dan and I tried twice to order one....the first time they gave us two bottles of a heffe-weissen beer...which we did not want. The second time I gave ordering a shot and the bartender grabbed the heffe-weissen again until I waved my hands and said "Nein! Nein!....uh....my German sucks....we want that one" (and I pointed to the hundreds of bottles of wieselburger in the fridge behind the bar). She obliged, the beer was good and we were totally confused. We were obviously mispronouncing something but couldn't figure out what. Then I met a dude from Boston who told me that it was actually pronounced "Veeselburger" not "Vyselburger" - problem solved. Dan and I got properly soused while listening to the dj spin: Interpol, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Sloan, Simian, Modest Mouse, Muse and various others. I found out from the bartender that they never have concerts on Saturday night because there are too many people who want to come and dance instead of seeing a band play. On the walk home from the club we made a 2am stop at the Chicken-Kebab/weinerschnitzel stand (read: 2am burrito stop) and woke up the next morning free of the dreaded euro-hangover (read: hangover). So today, docdayne and I are taking it easy. I'm enjoying a melange (the Austrian version of a cappucino) and a blueberry muffin while surfing the internet at BIGNET, the ubiquitous internet cafe chain. Tomorrow I'll explore the Museum Quartier while Dan lends his medical expertise to the fine citizens of Vienna. Oh yeah, and tomorrow we're going to hang out at Hitler's old cafe haunt...Dan plans to draw a sharpie Adolf moustache on his upper lip. I'm all for it. BYE.

So I'm off to Vienna. Much has changed since my last trip to Europe in 2000....apparently they pay for everything in gyros now ( ) I ran down to Greek town and stocked up last night. I should have enough to last me forever.

Later.

I don't know if the above album qualifies as a guilty pleasure, but I do like it a lot. And I borrowed it without asking (there's another word for that, which escapes me right now) about two weeks ago and have finally gotten around to burning it. The CD's owner may be vomiting up chicken noodle soup right now in an apparent case of food poisoning. And I ask you: where is the justice is in this world?

The highest paid piece of ass.
You know it's not gonna last.
Those magazines end up in the trash, yeah

What's the big idea, none of that stuff is even real.
Wanna know how they really feel, yeah

Five thousand dollars a day,
Is what they pay my baby
For her pretty face.
Five thousand dollars a day,
Is what they pay my baby
For her pretty face.

OMG!
Be good or Kozelek will get you....or my corpse will. Either way, look out.
I've never really been a fan of Lou Barlow or Sebadoh...but this record is really good.

Thanks to ol' Bmoss
for hooking me up with a copy. Represent to the fullest, my friend.

Busking in Vienna?

So DocDan and I have a plan to busk on the streets of Vienna while we're there. It may be a bit too cold to do it but I'm going to give it a shot anyway.

This is the way I picture it. Dan, can you secure wardrobe for us? The caps really sell it...and if you can amputate a limb (one of yours) we have a better chance of making more money.

Main Entry: busk·er
Pronunciation: 'b&s-k&r
Function: noun
Etymology: busk, probably from Italian buscare to procure, gain, from Spanish buscar to look for
chiefly British : a person who entertains especially by playing music on the street
- busk /'b&sk/ intransitive verb

Blast the Past

Kleenex Girl Wonder in Osaka, Japan - 1999.

So, I played last night at the Rodeo in DeKalb with This is Me Smiling (who were really good) and Surround Sound (who are rumored to be really good too but Ed and I split before their set). Ben joined me and played drums on about 5 songs /// overall it was really fun. DeKalb has a certain beautiful awfulness to it. The sound guy had a ton of reverb and delay on my vocals which I was really pleased about...it sounded like I was singing in a cathedral or something....total jam. After we'd set up our gear I realized that the Rodeo used to be the basement of Seven Dead Arson Records where I saw Braid and Traluma play in the late '90s.

So...
