Just a reminder to everyone that AO's fashion/design show is tonight. It'd be a nice pre-cursor to the New Black show - and, it's actually on the way down there. I've seen some of the designs they've been working on and it looks pretty kick ass. Hope you guys can make it.

Currently reading this:

and despite the really obnoxious album cover, listening to this:

(Patrick Wolf - Wind in the Wires)
This album is pretty great so far but ol' Patrick looks like he just went on an apple picking/antiquing road trip with Connor Oberst or some shit. Pull your shirt on your shoulder, brush that dirt off your shoulder and then we'll talk.

Matt and I combined our artistic talents to make the greatest flier of all time or at least the greatest flier made this evening. Please note the painstaking attention to detail in my rendering of one Steve Sleeve. All of our corporate sponsors insisted on nothing less than total realism for Steve's likeness. Matt's Garfield is sublime.

If you've never read this, I suggest you read it ASAP. In Cold Blood is absolutely the most compelling book I've ever read and it's nearly impossible to put down. I finished it in one weekend. A total stunner. I don't know why but last week it just sort of popped into my head that I needed to read it. The genius of this book really can't be conveyed adequately on the ol' lunchblog. I'll quote "Reading Rainbow" and simply add "But don't take my word for it!". Read it. Immediately.

Not much else to report. I'm about to start reading Under the Banner of Heaven by John Krakauer (who also wrote Into the Wild) and eventually The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. I have sort of abandoned Dream Brother - the lives & music of Jeff & Tim Buckley temporarily and made a run at finally reading I Served the King of England by Bohumil Hrabal but got sidetracked.

This post was a barrel of laughs.

Those seeking humor should read the comments on my last post.

I'm going to be playing this one solo...if anyone can make it out, that'd be awesome.

Waiter/Waitressing leads for hurricane victims on their way to Chicago?

My friend Monika has a few friends that had their homes/workplaces destroyed by the hurricane. They’re on their way up to Chicago to live with Monika…probably until they can find/afford digs of their own in the city. They are all experienced waiters/waitresses and I’ve been sending e-mails to my friends who work at restaurants to find out if anyone is looking for any wait staff help. If anyone reading this works at a restaurant that is hiring, would you please leave a lead in the comments section? Thanks.

Hey Quinn,

Thanks for looking at my artwork. Are you by chance the Quinn who also used to play in Kleenex Girl Wonder with your brother? Just asking because I always liked that band. OK, so here's the story. One of my good friends and collaborators in music, art, and otherwise is named Timothy Goodwillie. Around 6 years ago as friends of
mine began getting married, I began making them wedding paintings to celebrate their union. Tim and his long term girlfriend Heather were married about two years ago and I made them the piece that you saw. I use a lot of animals in my work, so I asked both Tim and Heather which animals they would like to be. Tim chose an orange cat, and Heather chose an owl. Of course, these two animals have far more significence together, from the Owl and the Pussycat and so forth. Also you are quite right to call the piece an amulet. Although I'm not religious or superstitious I have travelled extensively through SE Asia several times and have been very influenced by the use of amulets in many of the peoples daily lives. My work was already heading in a eastern psychedelic carnival aesthetic,so working with amulets seemed very appropriate. I make a lot of artwork, far more than I can show,
despite having about 3 or 4 shows a year. If you'd like to forward links to my website to additional venues that you know of, I'd be very grateful. I have
a show opening in Lappeenrannan, Finland this month and next month I'm trying to get into a Halloween show in Santa Monica. I'll check out your bands websites. I used to be a slave to indie pop music, but recently I've been playing more experimental music with my friends Tim Goodwillie and Grant Capes. This is a totally new
thing for me, but it's been really interesting, and it's diversified my music taste. This music is anything but indie pop, but as an artist, I'm really
digging it. Most of all I love playing with friends. Our playing is not really song orientated, but we play sessions of psychedelic splendor. http://www.vxpxc.com/

So Quinn, nice to hear from you and let me know if you need a goodwillie painting. Take it easy, and please email me if your bands come through LA.

Cheers,

Justin Gabriel McInteer
